People in Nigeria are loosing jobs because of Stigma
Reasons For the Stigma
The stigma surrounding people with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria is based on many factors. The main factor is fear. People in Nigeria are afraid of contracting HIV/AIDS so when they find out a person has HIV/AIDS they discriminate against them. They want to avoid the people with HIV/AIDS so the person with HIV/AIDS is often fired from jobs or if they are self employed they loose their customers. This causes the people with HIV/AIDS to starve or take drastic measures, such as crime, theft, or prostitution, to survive. These measures only help the person for a short time because if they don't take they will die.
Solution to the problem
A solution to the problem of people with HIV/AIDS loosing jobs is to create jobs that can only be held by people who have HIV/AIDS. These jobs should come with the benefit of medication to fight HIV/AIDS as part of the program. This will create awareness about HIV/AIDS and give people with HIV/AIDS a chance at survival. These jobs should be created and funded by both the government and private organizations, but should be spearheaded by the government. If the government shows support for people with HIV/AIDS and is helping them the stigma against people with HIV/AIDS could decrease.
